I recently rented, on separate trips, a Mercedes-Benz C250 sedan, and then later a Coupe, from my trusty friends at Enterprise Rent-a-Car. Now, I had a ton of folks who saw the above photo I posted to Facebook say, “Wow! Cool! A Mercedes!” However, I actually didn’t even find it to be superior to the Kia Optima I had rented previously, and I wanted to take some time and detail my thoughts on this car.

But with the above, you can understand now why I have a funny look on my face when folks say, “Ohhh…Mercedes! Nice rental, man!” If you get this one as a choice for a road trip, I’d suggest taking something else.

Yeah the C250 has a boatload of turbo lag but once it spins it rips. It took me a few months to get the hang of the lag when turning at lights.

You kind of nailed it with the comparison to the Golf GTI. My wife and I were interested in the GTI and went with the C250 instead. A little swankier and it actually worked out cheaper, including 7 years warranty.

I have the C250 sport coupe which has more features than the sedans, including map light and even nicer seats. I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t see that trim in a rental, though, but I recommend it if you’re interested in the coupe. The Sport setting on the sport coupe gets rid of much of the turbo lag. “E” mode, which is in the non-sport models, limits the accelerator at the start to conserve gas. Again you’re probably not going to see that on a rental.
