Space Elevators to replace Space Shuttles?

Another intriguing concept is the whole idea of a Space Elevator, which I saw on DailyTech when surfing around for other server stuff.   Intriguing idea — instead of expensively launching shuttles evrey time you want to sent something in to orbit, just make an elevator.
